Bubbles by Gabriela Zapata

Over these past couple of weeks in literacy we are looking at the story 'Bubbles' by Gabriela Zapata. We have been doing a range of activities based on the story, and one of the main things we have been looking at this week are synonyms and how we can improve our sentences using a better word from our thesaurus.

Here is an online thesaurus you can try yourself. See if you can improve some more sentences....

This is the story for you to watch.

Growth Mindset in Year 2

Since coming back after Christmas we have been introducing a new way of thinking within the classroom called 'Growth Mindset' This is the concept in which, when we come to learn something new, we may feel anxious, worried and unsure whether we will be able to do it, so we start at the top of the line and start to go into the 'pit'. Then as we become more confident and learn how to do the thing, we come back out the other side and feel better in ourselves and more confident in what we have learnt.

It is not the idea of 'I can't do it'.... It's 'how can I make myself able to do it', 'I can't do it yet but I will be able to soon'.

Here is a picture of the learning line in our room....Can you show your grown up how we show it on our hand?

We also have 4 new characters.... They show the four characteristics of learning and when we display these behaviours through our learning, we get a sticker!

They are called:
 Resourceful Rashan
 Perseverance Parker
 Co-operative Cora
Reflective Ria

Pirates!

Welcome back everyone and we have had a great first couple of days back! Our new topic is Pirates and when we came in on Monday there was something left for us on the carpet!!

We opened it up and it was a letter from Pirate Peter! Here is what is said...

OOOOOO arrrrrrrr year 2

I have travelled a long way across the blustery seas from a far away land to reach you. This letter is sent from a friend with a peg for a leg and a pet parrot called Pracila!

I live in the seas, on a solid wooden boat with a yellow and orange flag flying. Maybe you can spot me next time you go to the seaside?

Be careful or I might tell you to walk the plank , I hope you find the treasure during your pirate topic, I have sent some to school and told your teacher to hide it for you to find when you become skilled pirates and can read maps!
Shiver me timbers!!

Write back and don’t be shy
From, Pirate Peter the 2nd

We started writing some letters back in literacy! Here some of us are....
