Remembrance Day 2014

Remembrance Day is something we always focus on at Fieldhead Carr, and this year as well as work in lessons, we had a special art day in which each class created poppies out of different mediums to make a huge display in the hall. We all gathered in the hall for a moving assembly today and observed our 2 minuted silence at 11.00. Here is the art work on display in the hall.

We also have been doing lots of work in class. We have been writing postcards and poppy messages to the soldiers and their families, recreating Van Goghs poppy artwork using the technique of pointillism, and describing what we think it may have been like in the trenches during the wars. Here we are in class.

Florence Nightingale!

This half term our topic is Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole, and their roles in the Crimean War, working in the Scutari hospital.

We have been looking at a website in class and playing a game to clean the hospitals in the same way Florence did when she arrived in Scutari.... You can play this game by clicking on the picture of Florence!

How would you have cleaned up the hospital if you had been there?

Black History Month

This week in topic, as part of October being 'Black History Month' we have been learning about lots of important and famous black people that have made our world the way it is today. In particular in year 2 we have been learning about Martin Luther King and his 'I have a dream' speech and we have been making our own 'I have a dream' speeches. We have also been producing some art work inspired by Stephen Njenga, a black African artist. Our studies will continue further next half term when we are learning about Mary Seacole as part of our Florence Nightingale work.

The Magic Box by Kit Wright

This week as part of our poetry in literacy, we are focusing on two poems, the first one is 'The Magic Box' by Kit Wright and the second is 'I Know Someone Who' by Michael Rosen.

We have been imagining we have our own magic box and writing a poem to describe what would go into it.

If you click on the magic box below, it will take you to the poem... enjoy!
