Black History Month

This week in topic, as part of October being 'Black History Month' we have been learning about lots of important and famous black people that have made our world the way it is today. In particular in year 2 we have been learning about Martin Luther King and his 'I have a dream' speech and we have been making our own 'I have a dream' speeches. We have also been producing some art work inspired by Stephen Njenga, a black African artist. Our studies will continue further next half term when we are learning about Mary Seacole as part of our Florence Nightingale work.

The Magic Box by Kit Wright

This week as part of our poetry in literacy, we are focusing on two poems, the first one is 'The Magic Box' by Kit Wright and the second is 'I Know Someone Who' by Michael Rosen.

We have been imagining we have our own magic box and writing a poem to describe what would go into it.

If you click on the magic box below, it will take you to the poem... enjoy!

Poetry!

After listening to 'The Boneyard Rap' by Wes Magee, here are our raps we made up with Miss Coomber using instruments and actions to bring them to life! We had lots of fun with this activity.

Our Fire of London Challenge

This week in our investigation area we had a challenge for the children to build Samuel Pepys a bridge, to cross the river and escape the fire. There were the following resources available: string, lolly sticks, rubber bands and scissors.

Can you think of the best way to make a bridge?

Big Write Star - Friday 3rd October

Harry
Harry always takes great care over his writing, he includes lovely description and always uses punctuation correctly. I really like the way he opened his story with a question for the reader and included speech using speech marks correctly. Brilliant Harry
