Tuesday by David Wiesner

This week in literacy we are using the story of 'Tuesday' by David Wiesner. Can you describe what is happening in this picture?

What do you like about the story?
What don't you like?
What does it remind you of?
What puzzles you?
What do you think would happen if you could carry it on at the end?

Our Big Write this week is to imagine it is next Tuesday and decide which animal we think would be flying next. What would they fly on? Where would they go and what would happen?

Hot Seating for the Dreamgiver story

For part of our literacy lesson we have been doing some hot seating, asking the Dreamgiver from our story lots of questions and thinking about what the answers might be, to help us develop our imagination. We were also trying to make sure we used question marks correctly. Here are some photos of our super Dreamgivers and some of the questions the class came up with... can you think of any more to ask at home?

The Dreamgiver

This week in literacy we are using the story of 'The Dreamgiver' to support us in our writing. We began our lesson by closing our eyes and imagining that we were asleep and having the best dream we could imagine.

We then watched the story and started to think about what kind of Dreamgivers there may be. We also talked about nightmares and why the nightmare happened in the story. We designed our own Dreamgiver and thought about what our dream egg would be cracked onto in our bedroom. Here is the story you can watch at home!

The Black Hat - Maia Walczak

This week sees the last week we will spend looking at the author Maia Walczak and we are looking at her story 'The Black Hat. We are doing some drama to act out the story using our black hats in school. We are also having a debate about whether animals should be kept in cages like the boy does in the story.

We even have a pretend cage set up in our classroom so we can imagine what it might feel like...!

Here is the story

The Girl With The Yellow Bag - Maia Walczak

The week before half term, in literacy, we had been comparing another story of Maia Walczak, 'The Girl With the Yellow Bag' to her other stories that we have looked at. We were thinking about adjectives to describe. We had our own yellow bags and were describing what was inside them and then using our imagination to think about what each object could turn into, like it does it the story.

Here are some photos of us and also the video at the bottom of the story.

Bubbles - Gabriela Zapata

This week in literacy we are looking at the story 'Bubbles' by Gabriela Zapata. We are discussing the story and why the character does the things she does, and making up our own version using a story planner. We are also imagining what we would do if we were stuck in a bubble.... You can watch the story here...
